4" Cast Iron Park Drainage Case Study | Vodaland Canada

As a general contractor, we spent years using the same drainage systems from a major industry competitor. They were the "default" choice simply because they were easy to find, but we hit a breaking point. Every time we called to place an order, the price had jumped again. It became a ridiculous cycle that was hurting our margins, so we decided to venture out and find a partner that actually valued our business.

We first spoke with Vodaland about three years ago. To be honest, we hadn't heard of them at the time, but we decided to give them a shot. Fast forward to today, and you see them everywhere—they’ve built a massive reputation in the Canadian market for all the right reasons.

Vodaland is now our exclusive provider for every trench drain project we take on. Their pricing is spot-on, the free shipping is a massive cost-saver, and their customer service has only improved year over year. While we have a dedicated personal rep, every single person I’ve spoken to has been immensely helpful.

Case study: public park installation (4" cast iron slotted system)

Our most recent project was a large-scale public park where we installed the 4" Cast Iron Slotted Package. This system is rugged enough for public spaces but looks clean and professional once set. Over the last three years of working with these systems, we’ve picked up a few pro-tips that make a huge difference in the final result:

1. Always use the installation mounting brackets

Do not skip these. They cut our installation time in half. They are incredibly simple to work with, but the best part is the flexibility. Unlike other systems that "handicap" you with specific rebar placement, these brackets let you set your support exactly where you need it.

2. Stick with their polymer sealant

We’ve tried the stuff you find in big-box stores, but Vodaland’s specific polymer sealant is far superior. It creates a watertight bond that we trust to hold up through the Canadian freeze-thaw cycles.

3. Keep the gratings in during the pour

A common mistake is removing the grates before pouring concrete. We always keep them in—it ensures the channels stay perfectly aligned and don’t "squeeze" inward from the pressure of the wet concrete. This makes grating placement in the future effortless. (We also heard they are developing a protective grating cover for the pour, which we are excited to see!)

4. Lean on their expertise

If you’re stuck or have a question about a complex layout, just call them. They actually answer the phone, and if you have to leave a message, they call you back promptly.

I’ve attached photos from this park project and a few others to show the versatility of these systems. If you are looking for a reliable, fairly priced drainage partner, we couldn't recommend Vodaland Canada more highly.
