EasyPave Driveway Installation & Tech Guide | Vodaland Canada

Are you looking for a great way to add curb appeal to your property while significantly improving functionality? While you could opt for the standard concrete or asphalt, there is a better way to achieve your goal—cue our EasyPave Grid.

This permeable paving system is a leader on the Canadian market because it is easy to install, can hold up to 80,000 lbs, and is the only system featuring flow-through erosion openings for lateral water movement. This makes it particularly resilient during our heavy spring thaws.

If you want to see how this system looks once fully installed, you can view our project gallery for real-world examples of EasyPave in action. Before you dive in and begin to assemble your new driveway, here are the essential installation instructions to keep in mind.

Step 1: Prep your ground

One of the most essential steps before laying down your EasyPave Grid is to prepare the soil. Paying close attention to detail now will ensure your driveway stays level through the seasons.

To start, clear the installation area of grass or soil. Make sure the area is clear of all debris, such as large rocks, tree branches, and big stones. Next, after you have smoothed out the area, compact the sub-base.

If you require a base with professional-grade drainage, distribute 1 to 3 inches of crushed gravel (depending on your expected load) and compact it evenly on top of your prepared soil.

Note: If you are laying your grid directly on top of existing grass, we strongly suggest using our EasyPave anchors to avoid any "floating" or shifting on the turf.

Step 2: Connect the base

After creating a smooth and compact foundation, it is time to snap and connect your grid sections. The process is straightforward:

  1. Line up the units together end-to-end. Ensure that one pad section is lined up with a neighbouring unit’s non-pad section.
  2. Lightly tuck each pad under the wave pattern on the adjacent unit.
  3. Push the grids together until you hear a clicking sound. This indicates that your grid is locked and ready for the next step.

Step 3: Anchoring and filling

Once you have your grids locked in place, begin anchoring them with our EasyPave anchors. While this is an optional step for flat driveways, it is essential for grids placed on top of grass or for installations where the slope is over 10%.

From there, it is time to fill your grids for a finished, custom look. Here are a few filling options to consider:

  • Grass/Sod: For a natural "living" driveway.
  • Gravel: Ensure the stone size is 1/2 inch or less for the best fit.
  • Empty: If you prefer a more modern, industrial aesthetic.
