Catch basin frames
Steel frames for our 11" x 11", 15" x 15", and 21" x 21" BASE series grating options. Available in both galvanized steel and stainless steel, and will correspond with the load class of the grate used within it. Features protruding anchors for rebar support and proper encasement within concrete.
Why is a frame required?
Without a frame, the catch basin grate will usually just rust on the existing concrete. This concrete can deteriorate over time due to frequent traffic, erosion, and chemical exposure. When this concrete deteriorates, the grate then becomes un-level and is then itself at risk of breaking. In addition, this can also cause the common grate issue of rattling when traffic goes over top. With this in mind, frames are the best way to make sure your grate is safe and secured over the long term.
What is the difference between galvanized steel and stainless steel?
Galvanized steel is a zinc-coated steel which will prevent it from rust and corrosion. If this coating is to get worn or scratched, you can expose the steel underneath which can eventually cause rusting. Stainless steel itself is a corrosion-resistant, so rusting is never a concern. This is the reason for its higher price point. It's recommended to use the frame material that matches with your grate material. With plastic and cast iron, either option can be used.
How do I install the frames?
Each frame is designed with protruding anchors that allow you to suspend the frame on rebar supports. This way, you can position the frames at the right level and height. Once complete, simply encase in concrete and then fit your grating within the frame.
Available load classes for our Catch Basin Grates:
Load Class A - pedestrian foot traffic
Load Class B - Residential vehicle traffic (no parking) and yard equipment
Load Class C - Vehicle parking and commercial vehicle traffic
Please note that your frame is designed to meet the requirements for all 3 load classes. The resulting load class will be determined entirely by the grating used within the frame.
