What are garden catch basins made of?

Our basins are constructed from high-quality Polypropylene (PP) plastic, which is ideal for garden environments. This material is lightweight for easy DIY installation and completely UV-resistant, so it won’t bridge or crack under the sun. The internal debris baskets are usually plastic, designed to catch organic garden waste like grass clippings and soil before they clog your French drains or discharge lines.

What load class do I need for my garden or flower beds?

In most garden settings, an A-Class (Pedestrian) rating is perfect. This is designed for foot traffic, lawnmowers, and wheelbarrows. However, if your basin is located near a garden gate where a ride-on mower or small tractor might pass over it, you may want to consider a B-Class grate for extra peace of mind. Check out our load class guide to see which fits your backyard best:

How does the stackable basin system work in a landscape?

In many gardens, drainage pipes need to be buried deeper to avoid interfering with plant roots or to reach a proper slope. Our stackable basin system allows you to reach those deeper depths without needing a massive industrial pit. Simply stack the units vertically and remove the floor of the top basin. We recommend a simple silicone seal between the two to ensure all water stays inside the pipe system and doesn't oversaturate the soil around your prize-winning perennials.

How do I maintain and clean my garden basin?

Maintenance is as simple as weeding! Every few months—especially after a heavy storm or when the leaves fall—lift the decorative grate and empty the internal basket. It will likely be full of mulch, twigs, and leaves. Keeping this basket clear prevents "back-ups" that can turn your flower beds into ponds. A quick rinse with a garden hose is usually all it takes to keep the basin flowing perfectly.

Where are these catch basins typically used in a backyard?

These are the secret weapons of a dry backyard. They are typically placed in low-lying "bowl" areas of a lawn, at the base of retaining walls, or beneath downspouts to capture roof runoff before it drowns your plants. By collecting water at the source, they prevent soil erosion and keep your garden looking manicured even after a week of rain.

Our load classes are derived from A to E on our Catch Basin systems.
