What is the FarmGrid Mud Control System?

FarmGrid is a high-density geocell system designed to stabilize unstable and muddy terrain. It works by creating a "honeycomb" structure that confines aggregate (gravel or sand), preventing it from shifting and creating a durable, mud-free surface for animals and equipment.

How does FarmGrid differ from regular Geo Ground Grids?

While both are geocells, FarmGrid is specifically engineered for livestock:

  • Cell Size: FarmGrid has smaller cell diameters to better support animal hooves and paws, preventing them from "sinking" into the cell.

  • Cell Walls: The walls are solid plastic without the permeation (holes) found in standard geo grids. This allows it to be used above ground to create a raised surface above mud.

What materials should I use for each layer of the grid?

The recommended material for each layer of the FarmGrid is the following:

  • Base/Foundation: 3/4" crushed stone or gravel.

  • Inside the Grid: Small angular gravel (1/2" or less) is recommended.

  • Topping (for animals): If used for horses or livestock, it is highly recommended to add a finishing layer (2–4 inches) of sand or wood chips over the top for hoof comfort and traction.

How do I connect the units together?

Each FarmGrid unit comes with a pack of 50 zip ties. These are used to securely loop through the cell walls to attach multiple units together during installation.

Do I need anchors?

Yes, especially if you are working on a slope. Vodaland recommends using Rebar J-Hook Anchors (typically 12" or 18") to keep the grid fully stretched and pinned to the ground during the filling process.

Can FarmGrid be used on slopes?

Yes. FarmGrid is flexible and can contour to hills. For steep slopes (up to 45%), extra anchoring is required to ensure the system remains stable.
