What is the difference between Slot Drains and Trench Drains?

Floor drains are essential for proper drainage systems, and trench floor drains are a popular option. However, these utilize a flat grate that is fully visible and removable after installation. For those seeking an inconspicuous solution, a slot drain may be more suitable. Unlike traditional trench drains, slot drains have a narrow channel that creates a thin slot at the surface, making them the least visible option once installed. Once encased, slot drains cannot be removed. How does the cleanout and cleanout slot top work?

A cleanout is an essential component of any drainage system that functions as a collection point for water before it exits through the piping system. It includes a basket for collecting large debris and allows smaller sediment to settle at the bottom, which helps to prevent the risk of blockages in your piping system. 

The top of the cleanout is designed to look seamless with the rest of your slot drain system. You can fill the sides of the cleanout to match your floor, and the top can still be removed for regular maintenance wear. If you have a slot drain system, it is crucial to keep it clean so it remains functional. Slot drains have a narrow channel, which means they require intense cleaning.  

To facilitate the cleaning process, a slot drain cleaner tool is a great addition to your cleanout. This tool is designed to push all the contents within the slot toward the debris basket, ensuring that your drainage system is functioning correctly.  

Do I need to buy covers?

We sell covers for this system which protect the slot opening from unwanted debris and safeguard pedestrians from the risk of injury due to the slot opening. The covers are stainless steel and are ADA/Heelproof to allow for barefoot traffic. We offer our covers in 3 design options: slotted, raindrop, and maple leaf (maple leaf's jagged shape does not allow for barefoot traffic). Please note that the covers are to be applied before installation, and are not removable afterwards.

Vodaland has just released their new pre-slope polypropylene slot drain system which will allow for 1% pre-slope up to 8m in length.
