Stormwater Catch Basins
Manage heavy rainfall and protect your property with Vodaland’s Catch Basins, designed for high-capacity stormwater control. Engineered to collect and direct excess water, they seamlessly connect with trench drains and oil/water separators for a complete, efficient system. Built from strong, weather-resistant materials, these basins withstand extreme conditions while maintaining reliability. Easy to install and low-maintenance, Vodaland delivers drainage solutions trusted by engineers, contractors, and municipalities nationwide.
What are stormwater catch basins made of?
Our basins are manufactured from high-density Polypropylene (PP) plastic, offering a lightweight yet structurally superior alternative to traditional pre-cast concrete. This material is naturally resistant to the corrosive elements found in runoff, such as road salts, nitrogen from fertilizers, and hydrocarbons, ensuring a decades-long service life in the ground.
What load class is required for stormwater infrastructure?
Because stormwater basins are often installed in swales, curbsides, or green spaces, load requirements vary significantly. For landscaped areas, Class A (Pedestrian) is sufficient; however, for basins integrated into roadway curbs or paved areas, a Class C (25 tons) or Class D (40 tons) is required to meet municipal transit standards. How does the stackable basin system aid in stormwater design?
Stormwater piping is often buried deep to maintain the necessary pitch for gravity-fed systems. Our stackable basin system allows engineers to reach these depths without the need for heavy lifting equipment or cranes. By stacking units and removing the internal floors, you create a deep-sump manhole or junction box. We recommend a high-grade silicone or bitumen seal between sections to ensure the system remains watertight against groundwater ingress.
How do I maintain and clean stormwater basins?
To meet environmental regulations and prevent downstream pollution, regular "source control" maintenance is required. This involves lifting the grate to empty the internal debris basket, which captures organic matter (leaves/sticks) and litter. For fine silts and heavy metals that settle at the bottom, we recommend periodic removal with a vacuum truck or manual scoop to ensure the basin's storage capacity isn't compromised.
Where are these catch basins typically utilized in a site plan?
These units are the "first defense" in urban runoff control, highway drainage, and residential subdivision planning. They are strategically placed at low points, curb inlets, and at the end of bioswales to collect water before it enters detention ponds or municipal storm sewers. Their primary role is to regulate water volume during "100-year storm" events and filter out large pollutants that could damage the local ecosystem.
Load Class A - Light duty, pedestrian foot traffic
Load Class B - Medium duty traffic, light vehicles, sidewalks and residential parking
Load Class C - Heavy duty traffic, buses, garages, general commercial applications
Load Class D - Heavy duty trucks, gas stations, forklifts, highways
Load Class E - Extra heavy duty, hard tire forklifts, industrial areas, storage terminals
Load Class F - Special duty, airport runways, structures with extreme loads
We have four options as far as material for the gratings;
Plastic - This will be for your home / garden area with no loads of heavy value going over it at all.
Galvanized Steel - Light traffic such as bicycles, riding lawn mowers, and carts.
Stainless Steel - Can be driven on , cars, trucks, and heavy duty vehicles.
Cast Iron - Heavy duty vehicles, dump trucks, and buses.
